Banbury Town Council offers lifeline to coronavirus hit clubs:

Sports clubs in Banbury have received a £5,000 boost from Banbury Town Council. Football, bowls and tennis clubs that hire the council’s pitches, courts and greens have been granted a three month rent rest because coronavirus restrictions have prevented them playing.

For some small clubs the rent rebate is the difference between survival and folding.

Leader of the council Kieron Mallon said: “Not being able to play because of coronavirus means some clubs are receiving no income. They’re not getting match fees, annual subscriptions are being affected, and some bigger clubs have bars they can’t open".

The total cost of the rent rest is just under £5,000 with twelve clubs saving between £130 and £1,600 each.
