People’s Park is a delightful and beautiful open space in the heart of Banbury.
People’s Park is the town’s premier park and is loved by generations of Banbury families. It’s a place where residents of all ages can go for relaxation, peace and play. There are spacious grassed areas where people can sit, relax and enjoy picnics and there are dedicated areas for play and exercise.
Well-stocked flower beds surround the lawns and glorious trees provide shade when it’s sunny and shelter when it’s wet. It is fascinating to see how the colours change season to season. The park is on a gentle slope which provides panoramic views of the magnificent facility.
Banbury Town Council owns and maintains the park and continues to improve its already superb facilities.
Twice a week in the summer and once a week in the winter, litter bins are emptied and litter is picked.
Attractions include tennis courts, aviary, children’s play area, multi-use games area, fitness equipment, bowling green, walled garden, and the war memorial.
People’s Park is a stone’s throw from the Banbury Cross and one entrance is just across the road from St Mary’s Church.
Peoples Park main entrance is located off of Warwick Road, with other entrances from Bath Road and the Leys.

The Café at Peoples Park
The Café, near the Warwick Road entrance, has recently been refurbished and reopened. Serving coffees, hot and cold drinks, snacks, sandwiches, cakes and much more, it is an excellent destination for park goers and town visitors alike. Open all throughout the year, usually from 8:00am – 6:00pm, it was a project that re-used and redeveloped an old building not in use and has now become a key feature within the park.

The Aviary
The Aviary is a much loved feature within the park providing a home to various birds such as budgies and cockatiels. The birds are lovingly cared for by our park rangers. The Aviary can be visited all year-round, with the highly active and social inhabitants often roaming about the enclosure, interacting with each other or their many sources of enrichment.
We visit twice a day Monday – Sunday, where they are cleaned, checked, fed and watered.
The War Memorial
The wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial on Remembrance Day each year is a poignant tribute to those who lost their lives in two world wars and later conflicts.
The Tennis Courts
There are two tennis courts within the park. These can be booked via the link below, with free sessions available on weekdays between 3:00pm and 4:00pm. Alternatively, users can enjoy free tennis at Free Park Tennis events, on Saturdays between 11:00am – 12:00pm.
The Rose Garden
A formal rose garden in the heart of the park, that hosts planting-in-the-park, a competition in which local primary schools compete against to see which school can design and plant the best flower bed.
The Public Toilets
The toilets (including disabled and baby changing) are inside the walled garden which itself is undergoing transformation to return it to its original form when it was part of the Neithrop House estate.
The toilets are cleaned once a day Monday – Sunday.
The Multi Use Games Area
The Multi-use Games Area (MUGA) is available for a multitude of activities such as Basketball.
The Bowling Green
The Bowling Green is home to Banbury Borough Bowls club. Details of their fixtures and memberships can be found here.
The Open Green Space
The park is home to many majestic statement trees some of which were part of the private gardens of Neithrop House. There is also a wild flower meadow and a cherry tree walk that is a spectacle during spring when in full bloom.
Peoples Park Community Pavilion
Tucked away by the walled garden in Peoples Park is our Community Pavilion which is available to hire for parties, training and meetings.
