The newly refurbished play area at People’s Park has been opened today, with the equipment now useable just in time for the school holidays. The project, overseen by Banbury Town Council, has been under construction for several weeks and is now completed and ready for public use.
The newly refurbished equipment is another addition to People’s Park’s already-outstanding array of amenities, and offers yet another destination within the town for families to go out and enjoy over the school summer holidays.
The new equipment has been designed from the ground up to ensure that it remains modern, safe, and durable with a lengthy lifespan. It is hoped that the new trim trail unit installed will encourage creativity, physical activity and social interaction.
The new equipment was unveiled by Councillor Shaida Hussain, leader of the council and Chair of Resources. Cllr Hussain said, ‘This refurbishment is a wonderful addition to the People’s Park play area, and we are most pleased that it has been completed in time for the school holidays. This project also represents Banbury Town Council’s continued commitment to caring for and developing parks, green spaces and play facilities across town.’
The development is part of the ongoing efforts by Banbury Town Council to ensure that People’s Park remains welcoming, accessible, and appealing for all residents, both around the Town Centre where the park is located and the wider area. With its subtle design, the play equipment maintains the park’s unique character while enhancing appeal to visitors and local residents alike.
The refurbished play equipment is the latest of the park’s already impressive facilities, which include the popular rose garden, the aviary, and the People’s Park Café, which offers a range of hot and cold drinks and cakes. The park serves as one of the most important green spaces in the Town Centre, hosting a variety of flora and fauna.
With its combination of modern facilities and natural beauty, People’s Park is expected to become a popular destination over the course of the summer holidays, as families congregate for picnics, sports and events, including the upcoming Banbury Playday, a free event to be hosted on the 23rd July from 11:00 – 15:00. This will be a join collaboration by a number of local organisations including Cherwell District Council, Sanctuary, Oxfordshire Play Association, Banbury Charities and Banbury Town Council.
Caring for parks, green spaces, cemeteries, allotments, and more, Banbury Town Council plays a crucial role in maintaining and improving the town’s standard of living. This also includes creating and hosting events that encourage community, diversity, and fun. This year, the council plans to make each event one to remember, with town favourites like Banbury Music Mix, Banbury Canal Festival, and Town Mayor’s Funday also returning. This is in addition to events delivered by Cherwell District Council such as the Michaelmas Fair and Victorian Christmas Market.
