The Town Mayor’s Funday returned to People’s Park on Sunday the 13th July, with hundreds gathering in the heart of Banbury to enjoy a fun-filled day out with free entry and activities for the whole family.
Visitors from across Banbury and further afield enjoyed a day packed with thrills and excitement, with attractions aimed at just about every age range. From free wall climbing to face-painting and mini golf, there was plenty of variety to suit all tastes.
This event followed an extremely successful Town Mayor’s Funday in 2024, which saw a host of popular rides and attractions including a land train and axe throwing. Both of these were among many returning activities, which all proved to be just as popular – if not more so – at this year’s edition of the event.
Opening the event was the current Banbury Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Chukwudi Okeke, after welcoming guests he took part in a walkabout around the site, conversing with stallholders and attraction owners.
In the centre of the site was the live arena, always a big draw at Banbury Town Council events. For the Town Mayor’s Funday, the line-up consisted of singers, dancers and more. Performers, including Leighton Tongue and Leigh Chambers, sang an array of covers while School for Stars and Stagecoach Performing Arts both entertained audiences with their highly talented students.
Other free activities included mini golf and axe throwing with one of the supervisors Beatrice Francovschi, for this a champion recently returned from the World Axes and Knife Throwing Championships, where she won the world title for precision throwing at 3 metres.
A favourite from last year, Lennie the Land Train, also returned this year taking guests for rides around People’s Park.
The Town Mayor’s Funday marks the fifth council event of the year with plenty more still to come. The next event is the Banbury Music Mix to take place on Friday the 25th July in Banbury Market Place.
Banbury Town Council also looks after the town’s parks, green spaces, cemeteries, allotments, and more.
